Lincoln is an automobile corporation that was established in year 1917 by Henry Leland who was a manufacturer of automotive parts. He named it after his idol Abraham Lincoln, American president. The company did not last long and underwent various difficulties.

In year 1922, it was purchased by Ford Motor Company. At present brand Ford sells its luxury vehicles under brand Lincoln. Besides US Car brand Lincoln products are officially sold in countries like Japan, South Korea, Middle East and recently in China. Brand Lincoln has a product line-up that includes cars, SUVs and pick-ups.

Overview

Early models for brand Lincoln include L Series and K Series. During 1930s it found its feet and in 1936 Zephyr was launched and 40s saw the glamorous Continental. Brand Lincoln was able to maintain its premium status after World-War II with vehicle like Mark II. In year 1968, luxury coupe Continental Mark III rolled out and was a tremendous hit as by late 60s Lincoln had produced more than one million vehicles.

During 1970s, Lincoln introduced Versailles and Mark IV. Versailles was a mid-size sedan and from first it failed to create an impact. In 1981, Full-size Luxury-sedan named Town Car was introduced. It was turning point for the brand as it went on to become an iconic vehicle.

Brand Lincoln became first brand to offer anti-lock braking in its vehicles to its customers. Mark Series continued to evolve with Mark VI and later Mark VII. Mark VIII was launched in 1990s and had features like air suspension and four-cam V8 engine. In 1998, Keeping in trend with latest market evaluations, Lincoln introduced Navigator, its first SUV. It was decked in chrome framework and fixed with plush leather and other luxurious settings. This truck was a massive hit amongst the consumers.

New millennium saw launch of mid-size and Euro-flavoured LS sedan. Lincoln also dropped production of Town Car and introduced MKZ and MKS sedans and MKK, a crossover SUV, in its new line-up.

Automaker Lincoln has a history of manufacturing up-scale vehicles for its American markets. Although it is a division of brand Ford, but it has been able to retain its individuality through added luxury features, unique styling and powerful engines.
