Suzuki is a public company of Japanese origin that specializes in vehicle manufacturing. This multinational corporation was founded by Michio Suzuki in the year 1909 and has its headquarter base at Hamamatsu in Japan.
Suzuki as a brand deals in manufacturing various automobile, marine engines, four-wheel drives, all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, and wheelchairs. During its early years, the company manufactured weaving looms for the silk industry. The first thirty years of Suzuki were focused on the production and further development of these machines.
Later Michio Suzuki decided to diversify from looms as he became aware of rising demands towards cars. In the year 1937, Suzuki started with his new project and within a span of just two years, he had prototype compact cars. These motor vehicles included a four-cylinder engine that generated a horsepower of 13 and had an aluminum gearbox.
After World War, Japan needed personal transportation that was affordable and dependable. By the year 1954, it was manufacturing nearly 6,000 motorcycles every month. In the year 1955, its first successful automobile Suzuki Suzulight was launched. Its vital features included steering of pinion and rack, four-wheel independent suspension, and front-wheel drive. Its extended product line-up included truck production in the year 1961. This grew to include Fronte and Fronte 800.
70s saw debut of Jimny, sport-utility vehicle with later products like Alto and LJ80. Early 2000 saw brand Suzuki working on its vehicles by improving features and specifications of their models and evolving them.
Suzuki became interested in concept automobiles. In the year 2001, it launched GSX-R/4 fitted with an inline-4 engine and 175 horsepower. At Tokyo Motor Show in the year 2007, the brand launched its new concept car Pixy+SSC. Pixy is personal transport with single-seat and enclosed three-wheels. Suzuki Concept X launched at North American International Auto Show in the year 2005 and was mainly for the younger generation. It later evolved in a second-generation new vehicle named XL7.
Suzuki Aerio Sedan was in the market from the year 2002 till the year 2007 and had an all-wheel-drive and spacious cabin. This compact vehicle was introduced as a sedan and a hatchback wagon with four doors. Other vital features of this versatile vehicle included folding-rear seats, cargo capacity of 64 cubic feet, inline-4 cylinder with a 2.0-liter engine and 2.3-liter displacement. Suzuki Equator was in production from years 2009 till 2012 and was a highly-regarded pick-up with a V6 engine.
G 70 debuted at Tokyo Motor Show in the year 2011 as Regina but was later renamed. It is a next-generation concept car. This lighter and smaller vehicle has a turbo-gasoline engine with variable transmission and 3.1 liters/kilolitre fuel mileage.
Q-Concept was introduced at Tokyo Motor Show in the year 2011. It is a bubble car with both passenger and driver traversing in tandem and was mainly for a short journey. In the year 2015 at Geneva Motor Show, the iK-2 concept was unveiled by the brand Suzuki. It is a hatchback that will have a global market. Another vehicle launched by the company during this motor show was the iM-4 Concept. This 4×4 SUV will start producing its units from the year 2016.
